Can you say, "Happy Boy!"  He got a guitar with hard case & amp... I don't know what the difference in this one and his stratocaster is, but he seems to like it.. it is a sparkly red with mirrored alabama logo on it...

decisions, decisions....

I am having trouble attaching the letters and numbers to the quilt...perhaps, if I'd thought it through before starting, I would have sewn them to the squares before sewing the squares together...heehee.. oh, well...it's done now...
After seeing the solid grey, and the grey outlined together, I think I like the solid grey...

starting on the letters/numbers...

I've cut out the "GHS" and jersey # (63)... I think the size will be right....still have to fuse the two tones together then decide on placement, & attach to quilt top...

more progress on ghs top...

I've sewn the GHS top!!!! In my picture, the G is just pinned in place, but it has been sewn down...I'll post a better picture tomorrow... I still have to do a border and corner squares for the GHS and the jersey # and something that they call "the rock" (their tradition is to all touch this engraved rock before each game??.. I'll have to get a picture of it) and either a football, helmet or rocket in the fourth corner....

my car is back..

I've had my car in the shop since the Huntsville quilt show...it has been a stressful event, in that I did not let my husband fix it...even though the check engine light has been on for over a year, with no evidence that it was going to magically be fixed one of these days, I decided to let someone whose profession is to fix cars do it... oh the drama...well it's fixed (I hope).  It was way more work than I was expecting...It wound up needing a valve job...I was running on 3 cylinders, and it needed a timing belt and a sensor or two, then something with the computer was messed up... mixed signals or something...I prayed that they would figure out the computer issue today.. and I have my car back... I think someone else must have been praying for me too.... probably the mechanic..ready to be rid of this frazzled lady's car... my husband's pride was pretty badly wounded....hopefully he will settle down now that the car is back.

background squares for the "G"...

... I think.... not sure if I like it, but continuing on...  The lighting is not very good, and they are wrinkled from being snatched out of the path of wild animals and sitting under a pile of folded clothes...but you can sort of get the idea... more squares to make.  I've never worked with curved piecing, so I am worried about getting this together...

some progress...

ok, not a whole lot of progress...but some... I have started cutting out the background squares for the main body of the quilt top...maybe I will be able to post progress on that tomorrow...

It has begun...

GHS Rocket quilt part 1:  the center logo has been cut out, ready to sew together...
I had it laid out flat on the floor, but the dogs came trampling in before I could snap the picture....so you get the crumpled version for now...
This G was a bear to get right.... think Georgia bulldog G or Green Bay G logo, and increase size to appx 50" x 35" (I did not get it measured before the dogs came in, either) I still don't think it's perfectly accurate, but close enough!

new project

I am starting a new project, a quilt for my son in his school colors, with football number, and logo...possibly other school related images... not sure at this point.  I think some of these fabrics will be included...fabric selection still in process... maybe I will finish it before he graduates in 2011 : )

quilt show purchases

I didn't get away from the quilt show without bringing something back with me : )

not too bad....could have done a whole lot more damage to the pocketbook.

Don't you find yourself dreaming of having that much fabric in your own stash?....such a variety..... so many great books and ideas at those shows....
almost like getting to visit all the great quilting blogs in person....

latest preserves

Here are the latest:  apple preserves, apple pie filling, banana peppers, apple jelly, jalapeno peppers w/ a few pieces of habanero, pears in light syrup, ginger pear preserves.... not pictured is the apple pie in a jar jam...

made ginger pear preserves today

the battery went dead on my camera, so.... no picture...yet..  also have mom's apple pie in a jar jam, apple pie filling, apple jelly, mmmm... apple preserves, more pears in syrup..
I did get a picture of the first quilt that I did the quilting myself... it was the leftover stars lap quilt (the leftover part of the large stars quilt).  You can kind of see my flowers and stars... very wobbly... I didn't realize I was supposed to let the feed dogs down, so I was twisting and turning the quilt as I went..... silly, silly...

you can also see how wonky it is... started squaring up those tiny half square triangles, and decided......eh, they're close enough...but they weren't .... this is one of my lessons learned quilts.... I really like it despite it's flaws..... this is my ball park quilt....
...speaking of ball park..... my son's team has lost all their games so far... the last one, they players were so muddy...terrible field conditions....you couldn't even read the numbers on some of the jerseys... white shirts, light silver pants.... glad they decided that the coaches were going to wash the uniforms this year... I still had cleats, socks, girdle, underarmor & ankle braces to wash the mud out of....

purse#2

This is purse #2 that was made during the months without a computer...I really like this one.  boy, did I have a hard time turning those handles...I used heavier fabric than called for in the pattern...had to get my needlenosed pliers out...
